A Swell Background

I'm all at sea today with a couple of cards using the Swell stamp set from Avery Elle.

I love that this stamp is such a large background but I decided to make it much 

more versatile by carefully snipping the little boats out of the wavy scene.... it's easy to do 

with a sharp craft knife or scissors and you can always add the boats 

back into the design if you want to..

With the boats separate, you can ink them in different colours as I've done here.

I've used a circle die to cut a central aperture then layered a smaller aperture 

under the front panel to give a blue border to the design.

I've used part of the sentiment from the same set and added 'Birthday' on a banner 

with Swinging Borders and Lots of Letters by Mama Elephant.

Another fun thing you can do with the boats removed from this background 

is add different images in their space... like this seagull from Beside the Sea.

The waves and birds are embossed in white and I've cut a circle aperture again 

and used the die cut to make a recessed window..

The seagulls in the Peek a Boo Summer Pals was the perfect fit for this card so I've 

paper pieced them and tucked them into the window... one of them had to be 

the Birthday Gull so it has a party hat!!

It may seem scary chopping into photo polymer stamps but as long as you're 

careful it can really make those supplies stretch that bit further with your creativity.

This is what my stamp looks like now... and I can just pop the boats back into 

the holes and still use it as intended.

Tropical Birthday Pals

Hello, Tallie here. I have a bright birthday card today featuring the Avery Elle Peek-a-Boo Summer Pals set. Perfect for our recent summery weather!

I started by stamping out the toucan, frog and flamingo (and their coordinating arms/legs/wings!) from the set with some MFT Extreme Black ink onto some blending cardstock. I coloured them in with my alcohol markers, sticking to realistic but bright colours. I cut these out with the coordinating dies.

On a white A6 top-folding card base I inked on some Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink using the Hero Arts Tile Pattern stencil for a subtle background. On three other panels, I used Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon, Blueprint Sketch, Scattered Straw and Gathered Twigs, cutting these out with n MFT Inside & Out Stitched Circle dienamic and a Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Border die. This I arranged in a scene over the stenciled background.

The sentiment is comprised of two parts. The first is a white heat embossed sentiment from the MFT Essential Sentiments set - this is a good staple for all sorts of greetings. The bigger 'birthday' sentiment I made by stacking several of the MFT Cause for Celebration dies, with the top layer inked with the blue Distress Inks I used on the background.

A Sharky Summer Pals Hello

Hello, Tallie here. I've been playing with one of the newest additions to the the Avery Elle Peek-a-boo sets - Summer Pals. These two little sharks (ignoring that one might just be a dolphin...) are eyeing each other up across the ocean!

I started out by ink blending on some Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink onto some white card panels. I splattered these with water and then die cut them, first with a Stitched Rectangle and then with an Ocean Wave Border. I also blended another panel using Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon and cut this again with the Stitched Rectangle.

Onto some blending cardstock, I stamped out the two sharky friends along with their fins and coloured them in with my alcohol markers. I die cut these with the coordinating dies.

Using some fun foam, I adhered the waves in layers onto a white card base, adding the sharks in between the layers. I stamped out the 'HELLO' speech bubble sentiment from the set in some Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink and followed this with some clear embossing powder to make it shiny.

A few clear sequins to represent the ocean spray finishes off the card nicely.
