Sparkle, Paste, & Acetate.

Jill here, and this week I’m experimenting with texture paste on acetate...

...& adding a ton of sparkle because who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle!

I started with a simple piece of acetate and a desire to make it sparkle! I used Altenew’s Halftone Stencil and spread a good layer of paste over-top, sprinkled with Lawn Fawn’s Chunky & Prisma Glitters, then set aside to dry.

I then covered a piece of white card in Stick-It and cut Lil Inker’s Stitched Butterflies from it, peeled back the Stick-It and, again, covered in Lawn Fawn’s Chunky & Prisma Glitters.

My ‘Hi’ is from My Favourite Things’ Hello There die set which I cut from card and heat embossed with Lawn Fawn’s Rose Gold embossing powder several times to create a nice substantial molten metal look element.

Once my acetate panel was dry I cut a frame from both my card blank and another piece of card, allowing me to sandwich the acetate in between creating a pretty sparkly acetate fronted card.

I built up my other elements and adhered in place, adding a silver bow to finish off.

I added a panel of silver sparkle card on the back of my card so the pretty went all the way through, and there you have it.

I love the way the texture paste has worked with the acetate and look forward to a little more experimentation!

Heat Emboss Resist - Autumn Edition

Hello crafters! Today I have a fun project for you featuring an oldie but goodie technique, namely heat embossed resist. In addition, I wanted to see if I can stretch my supplies a bit — My Favorite Things has a gorgeous new fall stamp set, but I wanted to see if I can create a similar autumn project with the Build-able Bouqet set.

The heat resist emboss technique is quite easy, actually. All you need to do is find an image which you can heat emboss, and the heat embossing will resist most of everything what you put on top of it. In my case, I'm using simple distress ink. Once you're done, you could even wipe the embossed areas clean, but I felt it wasn't even necessary in my case. I was also using clear embossing powder, since my watercolor panel was already white. The embossing powder trapped the white underneath it.

Even though this is an autumn card, I felt it needed some shimmer. So, of course, I had to grab my Mister which was filled with a mixture of water and Perfect Pearls. I spritzed my project only twice to make sure I wouldn't reactivate the distress ink again. But even so it added a beautiful nice shimmer to my card.

As for the sentiment, I decided to cut the board "hello" from white and brown card stock. By adhering them on top of each other with a slight offset, it appears more dimensional and has more contrast against the colorful watercolor panel. I'm picking up the brown color of the sentiment in the Bakers Twine that wrapped around the panel as well.

Pretty Masculine.

Jill here, and this week, I'm using masculine colours to create something pretty...

Using My Favourite Things Scribble Roses and Hello There Dienamics. 

I started by watercolour washing a piece of card in blue ink, and die-cutting My Favourite Things 'Hello There' from it.  I then added another wash across my background using grey ink, adding a good splattering of the blue to tie in with my die-cut.

While that was all drying, I die cut these gorgeous Scribble Roses, again from My Favourite Things, covered in adhesive, then smothered in delicious beautiful sparkly white glitter.

I cut a little banner from black card, and a bigger banner from vellum, to root all my elements too, and built all my pretty pieces up, around, over, and under them.  I added a good scattering of enamel dots and clear dome gems, then mounted my panel onto a piece of dark grey card, adding a little slither of black down one side.

I like how this card came out, really simple design, with some really strong colours, but hopefully adding a little delicacy to them.

A sparkly Hello with a resist watercolour wash.

Jill here, and this week I'm letting the sun lead the way by taking inspiration from some beautiful bright summer colours...

...ultimately aiming for a kind of sun-bleached, chilled out, laid-back vibe.

I started by stamping out this amazing Geometric grid Background Stamp from My Favourite Things on a piece of watercolour card and heat setting in clear embossing powder to act as a resist.  I love a great background stamp, even more than I love a cute critter stamp, and this is my newest favourite!  I'm really looking forward to doing a nice bright ombre wash across it.  It's one of those background stamps that works perfect with watercolour as it has all the little spaces for the colours to become trapped which makes for the coolest effect.  I used some beautiful bright yellows, greens and blues mixed with plenty of water, and washed them across my embossed background allowing my colurs to blend.

While that was drying, I cut this sweet little Duo Die 1 frame from  Paper Smooches, and white heat embossed the whole piece.  I then cut the 'Hello' form My Favourite Things Hello There Dienamics.  This is another new favourite for me, the font is just perfect, pretty but cool, and you get 'Hi', and 'there' in the set too so really great value for money.  I cut it from a scrap of sparkly silver paper I had in my stash, and a piece of white fun foam, before adhering them together.

I added a twirl of metallic thread and built up my elements on top of my panel, manipulating my 'Hello' die so that it fit nicely across my frame.

I kept things simple by embellishing with a scattering of gems and mounting onto a white card base, then left things there.
