Treasure Map Fold Out Card

Today I'm sharing a treasure map card, that opens out to reveal a scene with the treasure inside. 

I began with a piece of white card, measuring 8 1/2 inches wide by 5 1/2 inches tall. I then scored two vertical lines at 2 1/8 in on both sides of the width of the card. This creates an area in the middle that's 4 1/4 inches, with two sides that fold in.

Front of the card:

For the treasure map on the front, I cut a piece of watercolour card to 4 1/4 by 5 1/4 inches. I used my zig clean colour real brush pens and a water brush to create a watercolour map, freehand painting two islands. To keep the colours soft, I scribbled the zig markers first on to an acrylic block, then used the water brush to add the colours to the card. 

I then added some water to the edges and tore the card stock for a jagged edge all around it. I blended on some dark brown ink around the edges to make it look more aged. Once this piece was dry, I added stamped wave details, the compass, and the 'X marks the spot'. 

I stamped, coloured and cut out lots of images from the Lawn Fawn Ahoy Matey and Lawn Fawn Duh Nuh stamp sets, and added some elements to the map. Then I drew a red marker dotted line from the ship to the X. 

Once the map was finished, I cut it in half and attached it to the folding card base.

Inside the card:

It's best to avoid too many layers inside the card and to keep them slightly away from the scored line edges, so it folds shut nicely. 

I cut a Lawn Fawn stitched hillside from kraft card. On some white card. I blended on salty ocean distress ink, spritzed it with water for texture, then cut it with the MFT ocean waves borders.

Before layering these onto the card, I added some cloud detail directly to the card base with the MFT mini clouds stencil and tumbled glass distress ink. 

I adhered the Ahoy Matey images and a shark from the Duh Nuh stamp set, then finished the card with a vellum Lawn Fawn Bannertastic banner and a heat embossed glitter sentiment. 

Finishing touches:

To help keep the card closed, I cut a vellum belt to go around the card. I heat embossed a greeting on it too, for a fun finishing touch.

For the message to the recipient, add a stitched rectangle panel on the back so that when the message is written, it won't show through to the inside.

Hi everyone, Taheerah here wishing you a happy Thursday!

I absolutely love building my own backgrounds using stamps. Not only is it rewarding, but it also allows you to customise your background with any colours or style you want!

Take the Waffle Flower Plaid Play stamp set, for example. On Monday Jenny showed how it could be used to create perfect masculine cards. Today, just by changing up the colours and layering slightly, I was able to use the set in a completely different way, and create a baby card:

How adorable is that?! Love it!

I stamped my background in tones of pink and yellow. It was so easy to do, even if you don't have a stamp positioner tool! Once my stamping was done I tapped a white inkpad over the top of it to make the colours less intense. I love the soft, muted look that resulted!

I love the adorableness of the Waffle Flower Popping In stamp set! I combined several of the images with some simple pencil colouring for a delightful scene! The banner is from another favourite set of mine - the versatile Lawn Fawn Bannertastic stamp set!

Shake those Jelly Beans!

Today I'm sharing some jelly bean birthday cards. I just love their funny faces!

 

I used the companion shaker die set with the Lawn Fawn How You Bean? stamp set to make some shaker cards. I've been making multiples of my cards recently as, once everything is out on the table, it doesn't take much more time to make another card or two.

To start, I stamped loads of the jelly beans and coloured them in with alcohol markers, in a rainbow of different colours. I also stamped some of the jars, lids, and labels. I stamped a face on each jelly bean too.

I used the shaker die set to cut out the jars, plus a layer of foam tape and backing panel for each. I adhered a group of jelly beans to each of the back panels, then added some loose jelly beans before sealing the shakers.

 

I chose some coloured card bases and die cut a rounded stitched frame rectangle for each. From some Lawn Fawn patterned papers, I die cut panels to go at the bottom edge, using scalloped and basic edge die cuts. I also ran these through my die cutting machine with the rounded frame so they would line up properly on the card panel.

Once these were adhered down, I added the shaker jar, some extra jelly beans falling down and the lid, leaving plenty of room for a sentiment.

Not wanting to cover those pretty papers too much, I decided vellum banners would be perfect. I stamped three banner from the Lawn Fawn Bannertastic stamp set with Versamark ink, then heat embossed them in white. I added some heat embossed sentiments, then die cut them with the coordinating dies. 

Vellum can be tricky to attach to a card, but some strong liquid glue strategically added behind the heat embossed areas works well.

Today I have a shaker card to share, featuring the adorable Pegasus horses from Avery Elle. This is such a lovely set to colour, and the sentiments in the set are great too. 

I began by die cutting a scalloped rectangle from white card and from this, die cutting a rainbow. I made sure to leave enough space at the bottom of the card for a banner to go.

I added acetate behind the rainbow cut out, and used foam tape to build a space for the sequins to go. I chose sequins in rainbow colours, then sealed the shaker with some blue patterned paper.

Next, I stamped out two Pegasus horses, colouring them with alcohol markers and adding Wink of Stella clear glitter for some sparkle. I then fussy cut them out. I added two die cut clouds to the base of the rainbow, then the horses over the top.

For the sentiment, I stamped a Lawn Fawn Bannertastic banner and chose a greeting from the Pegasus stamp set. I die cut the banner, then added to the card with foam tape.

I adhered the shaker panel to a pink notecard, then stamped some stars to the top of the card to finish.
