We Go Together Like Movies and Popcorn Card

Movies and popcorn, is there a better pairing? In my opinion it's not a 'real' trip to the cinema if you don't have some, and a movie night at home just isn't the same if you aren't snuggled up together on the sofa sharing a big box of freshly made popcorn!

The Popcorn Stencil from Newton's Nook is a perfect design for the movie buff (or popcorn lover)! I've had an idea in my head since I laid eyes on it, and couldn't wait to give it a go:

I love how this turned out! Looks almost good enough to eat, right?!

I started by building up a few layers of popcorn with my stencil, using ink, mist, and even a Nuvo Jewel Drop to add different colours and interest. I rotated the stencil each time so each layer could peek through. This was only the background part and was pretty much covered up by the top layers but it still added some interest to what would otherwise be a plain white base!

Next came the actual idea itself - embossing paste! I started with adding a drop of yellow reinker to some paste and mixing it to a lovely cream, then laying down my first dimensional layer of popcorn. Now comes the trick - applying heat with a heat gun or heat tool puffs the paste up so it looks just like popcorn! I sprinkled a little gold glitter over some of the popcorn for added texture and interest!

I added my second layer in the same way, adding white popcorn this time. I added some fine splatter from a brown reinker to add a little attitude, before starting on my sentiment.

I used the sentiment from the Newton's Movie Night stamp set, stamping the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black ink. I trimmed the sentiment into a movie ticket shape - so cool! I added red stripes to the the layer of cardstock behind the ticket - I used some skinny washi tape to mask the stripes then swiped the Versafine Clair ink in the Glamorous colourway to create the stripes! Both pieces were added to the card base using dimensional glue gel for some variable height from the base.

Safari party

Hello lovely people! 

I'm back with a very simple card today, which features MFT Safari Party stamp set.  ( Hey! This set in now 25% off! )

I must say, I often struggle with clean and simple cards.

I like splatters and dimension, so it was very hard not to add any of it here.

My first step was to stamp this adorable elephant on to watercolour paper with Versafine Onyx Black. This ink is waterproof and perfect for working with waterbased mediums. Then I've coloured it with Zig markers and cut out using scissors.

 

Before assembling this card, I die cut large circle from Large Stitched Circle Lawn Cuts in white. It has lovely stitched details, just enough to add a little bit of interest behind the main image.

I've also used Hero Hues Pebble Cardstock from Hero Arts, cut to be slightly smaller than my card base.

My next step was to stamp the sentiment. I chose one of the greetings from the same Safari Party set. I've curved it to fit along the circle part and stamped with Versafine Onyx Black. 

After adhering everything together, I added a few clear sequins and glossy accents to the hat and little bow.

Happy Birthday Chicks

I have a striking birthday card featuring some homemade background paper and the MFT Birthday Chicks stamp set.

There are several products I use to create striped backgrounds like this one - the Altenew Classy Stripes stencil, the Concord & 9th Stripes and Sayings stamp or MFT Black and White Stripes Paper are just a couple of them. Six months ago I made a huge stash of paper using the MFT Bold Diagonal Stripes Background with my regular MFT Extreme Black Ink. I cut one of the pieces down and adhered it to a white card base. I also cut out a kraft cardstock circle using a Lawn Fawn Stitched Circle die to give a backdrop to my images.

Next, I stamped out the chicks and cake from the MFT Birthday Chicks stamp set and coloured them with my alcohol markers. I cute these out with the coordinating dies and adhered them in a scene on the circle.

For the sentiment, I die cut several of the Lawn Fawn Scripty Happy - one from red cardstock - and stacked them for dimension. To finish off, I white heat embossed a 'BIRTHDAY' sentiment strip from the Lawn Fawn Simply Sentiments set.

Focus on the Sentiment

Hello, it's Liz here. Today I have made two cards where the sentiment takes centre stage. The sentiment on the card above is by Lil' Inker Designs. I decided to set it back in an aperture by using Lawn Fawns Outside In Stitched Square Dies. I used black cardstock as a layer behind the white, I like the effect of the black edges showing through the aperture.

The sentiment on the card below is from the So Kind set by Avery Elle. The square was die cut using the Stitched Square die set by Reverse Confetti. 

The super cute mice are from the Garden Mice set by Newton's Nook, matching dies are available here.  I think they are the perfect size to complement a larger sentiment.

For the Knitters

I have a make to share with you today that is ideal for those knitting fans out 

there using the Letterboard dies and Knit Wit stamp set from Sugarpea Designs...

This piece started life as a panel to go on the front of a card but when looking for some 

grey foam to mount it onto I found a piece with a magnetic backing and I decided 

to turn it into a fridge magnet instead!

I've just cut lots of letters using the alpha die in the Letterboard set and arranged the quote 

around the pile of knitting wool which are from the Knit Wit set.

Now I had to go back to the drawing board with a card to go with the magnet so I used two more balls of wool from the same set and paired them up with a sentiment from Mama Elephants Scripty Birthday. I used Distress oxides to stamp the words so they matched the Copics used for the wool and I extended the lines from the sentiments using other 

stamps in the set and the partial inking technique.

To balance up the design I used a small sentiment on a piece of textured card to look like 

a stitched label... adding a small dotted line with a stamp but could easily be done by hand too

I think that quote would work for any crafter whatever their crafting medium, lets face 

buying supplies is just as fun as using them 😉

Panda Crossing

Hi guys, I'm back in my usual slot today, still lots to sort but time to try and get a bit of normality back.  Thank you so much to everyone who has taken time to leave a message or send me a beautiful card, I really do appreciate all your kind thoughts.

So back to today, I really couldn't wait to get my hands on one of the latest "little agenda" sets from Mama Elephant today - Pandamonium, one of their early stamp sets has been a constant best seller, so when they brought out a little agenda version of Pandas, we knew they were going to run out of the door fast.

On my version, I've decided to have the Panda's balancing on a birch tree to cross a ravine - I do love how many of them look like they are balancing on one leg so giving them a balance beam seemed a natural choice.

I picked 5 of the pandas, stamped and coloured with copic markers and die cut them with the co-ordinating dies.  I used the dies to die cut the same card twice more for each panda shape so I could stack them and give some depth without using foam as I wanted to suspend them in mid-air.

To get the suspended look, I stuck the coloured panda's on top of the birch tree (also coloured with copics using pointillism to get the feel of the peeling bark) where I wanted them to stand and then turned the tree over so I could stack the other two die cuts behind the tree lining them up from behind.  This means you have 2 layers behind the tree and one on top.

To keep them away from the card, I also stacked the frame in the same way.  I die cut the stitched detail frame from the Pegworks die set from Kiwi cardstock 3 times and adhered the ends of tree behind the top layer and then stacked the other two behind.   This means when you stick the frame and pandas to the card they sit away from the background but won't crush in the mail as all the elements are nice and solid.

For the card itself, I just blended a blue background with tumbled glass distress oxide ink and sprayed with water for an soft effect.   I went with a sentiment to match the Chinese look of the bears as it sounded to me like something you'd get in a fortune cookie.  It came from the Birthday Messages stamp set also by Mama Elephant.

NEWS FROM THE STORE

We're still playing catch up on ordering new releases so sorry to those of you who are still waiting for the Altenew release to arrive.  They have another die release coming up this month of standalone dies so everything will be coming together with that hopefully next week.

The restock of Waffle Flower's Water Media Mats is due to arrive tomorrow customs willing.

A massive delivery from Hero Arts arrived late on Friday so we'll be working our way through that this week and will get it online as quickly as we can.

We are also expecting our delivery of the brand new Stazon Pigment ink pads this week.

There are going to be ongoing appointments I have to attend to sort out my mother's estate and we will be closed for the funeral (date as yet to be confirmed) but we will post updates on Facebook and here to keep you all in the loop as to when we won't be around.

BIRD-day Party

Hey stampers, Anni here!

Today's card is featuring A LOT of Lawn Fawn Sets.
I wanted to use the set Birthday Before 'n After. Most of the images on my card came from this set. But I wanted to create a big party so I added in a few more birds from other sets. What I really like about Lawn Fawn is that all the sets mix and match perfectly.

I found birds that would go with the scene in the sets Get Well Before n' After, a small one in Elphie Selfie, also the flag I got from this set and two more birds and the envelope came from the set Love Letters.

I stamped all the images and coloured them with coloured pencils. When I arrange such a complexe scene I love to use the Wendy Vecchi Make Art Stay-tion. It gives me the third hand I need in these situation holding two pieces down and arranging a third one.

The sentiment banner I created by die cutting one of Lawn Fawn's Fancy Folded Banners. The simple Happy Birthday I found in Lawn Fawn's Hay There.
