Ever Lasting Poinsettia

I've got a quick gift to share today.  I buy my Mum a poinsettia plant for Christmas every year, its become a bit of a standing joke, as despite her normally very green fingers, she cannot keep one alive beyond New Year's Eve!  So I thought I'd make her a picture of one that can never die so I've used Pamela the Poinsettia from Stamping Bella and given it a decoupage twist.

I stamped the image several times on cartridge paper and coloured her with inktense pencils and a waterbrush.  I then cut out some "layers" so I could create my own decoupaged image - just pick your way through the leaves and petals and you can easily see the layers to cut.  I glued just the tops down so I could curl the petals.  I die cut the main image (before decoupage) with an old spellbinders die and added a red matt by drawing around the outside of the die and cutting by hand as the next size die was too big for my frame.  The frame is from poundland and I just took out the glass and glued a piece of decorative paper onto the back board before sticking  my piece on top.   Simple cheap stocking filler that can be brought out annually as part of the household decorations.

NEWS FROM THE STORE

If you stopped by the blog or Facebook yesterday then you will have seen the sad news that Julia has decided to step down from the blog as she was finding it too time consuming to keep up with all her many DT commitments - the problems of being such a great crafter is so many people want her!  We wish her the very best and hope she will still pop back from time to time to join us.   Julia actually told me of her plans for the end of the year back when we were looking to replace Keren so I was able to plan ahead and we have therefore already lined up an amazing crafter to join our team from January.   So please go ahead and welcome Anika from Annikarten to the team - we are sure that Anika will provide lots of lovely inspiration for you.

The blog will be taking a break along with the store over Christmas but we will have a little mini series of our favourite things starting on Boxing Day (26th) and the blog will be back with me on 1st January to let you know what to expect when we reopen.

We are hoping to get a last minute restock order from Kuretake this week as we had a sudden rush on paints and pens so if you are wanting them from Santa - keep an eye out on Tuesday/Wednesday before we close.

Finally, if you want to find out a little more about me and the store, then I did my first ever interview  recently for Cardmaking & Papercraft Magazine so I have "The Last Word" on the back page of their January issue which is out this week.

  2. What a lovely framed picture! I used to make decoupage pictures many years ago before I started stamping - it's very addictive!
