Hibiscus Happy Birthday

My card today features the Waffle Flower Hibiscus stamp set with a clean and simple design. This is a layering stamp set and I love the loose artsy feel of the layers.

I stamped the outside flower layer with black ink, and used some MFT cube dye inks to stamp the two coloured layers. I then fussy cut them out. I had some coloured images left over from another project so used one of the leaves on this card.

Next, I die cut a stitched rectangle and stamped a greeting from Avery Elle Spring Bouquet. I marked in light pencil where this would go on my card then moved it to the side whilst I worked on the background.

I used a dot pattern stamp from the Flora & Fauna Texture 2 stamp set, stamping in black ink a diagonal down the card front. I also added some second generation stamping for more interest.

I adhered the sentiment panel onto my card, then the leaf and two flowers. I used some foam tape under one of the flowers for dimension. I finished by adding some clear embellishments amongst the background stamping.

Have a lovely day,
Gemma

Red Stripes and Spring Bouquet

I’m continuing my theme of simple floral cards this week. My card today features no ink blending or colouring at all! Almost unheard of for me! My inspiration for this card came from a clothing print that I really like.

I chose a piece of stripy patterned paper from my craft stash, and cut it down to fit my card base. There are lots of great options for patterned papers in the store. I love this pack from Lawn Fawn, which has a similar patterned paper to the one I used on this card.

Next, I stamped some images from the Avery Elle Spring Bouquet stamp set with black ink, and die cut them out. Before adhering them to the card, I embossed a greeting from the same set in white directly onto the patterned paper. I then added the flowers and leaves to the card with a mix of liquid glue and foam squares.

This card was really quick and simple to make, and I love the graphic look of the black line images against the bold pattern background.

Thanks for joining me today,
Gemma

Spring Bouquet

When I saw the new Spring Bouquet stamp set from Avery Elle, I couldn’t wait to colour the beautiful flowers.

One of my favourite ways to colour images at the moment is to use a mix of alcohol markers and coloured pencils, for a no line colouring look.

I began by stamping the large bouquet image with a very pale pink ink. I then used some light pink and green markers to add colour. I left some areas free of colour so they can be highlights on the image.

By adding this layer of alcohol marker colour first, it covers a lot of the white card and adds a nice base layer on which to add the finer pencil details on top.
I used my coloured pencils to build layers of colour on top. I really love this process and find it relaxing. Though I am still learning, and every image is different, I recommend just having a go and seeing what you can do.
To turn this into a card, I trimmed the panel down, added some gold sparkle twine, and used foam tape to add it to a kraft card base.

I then added some sequins and a banner sentiment, using a greeting from the same stamp set.

Thanks for joining me today,
Gemma
