Monster Pivot Pop-Up

Today I'm sharing a monster pivot birthday card, which I made for my nephew.

I began by stamping and colouring lots of images from the Lawn Fawn Monster Mash stamp set. I fussy cut them out and added some gel pen, glossy accents and glitter details.

Front of the card
I decided on a party photo design for the front of the card. I layered a piece of patterned paper on a white card base, then a stack of white polaroid frames on top. On one of the inside frame pieces, I added a blend of distress oxides and stamped a present (from another Lawn Fawn stamp set) for a fun pattern. I added four monsters and adhered the piece within the polaroid frames. To finish the front of the card, I stamped a greeting from Elphie Selfie.

Inside the card
On the inside of the card, I first added a layer of light purple ink. I didn’t spend long blending as the messier the better for a monster card!

I die cut all the pieces for the pivot mechanism from a lightweight cardstock, using the Lawn Fawn Pivot Pop-Up die set. I’ve found this to be better than the card I would normally use as it’s not too bulky and folds better.

I used the same combination of colours for the scene inside, adhering more monsters and accessories. I love the Lawn Fawn sets for being able to mix and match different elements. They all work so well together.

For a big sentiment, I used the Altenew Simple Alphas set and a C&9th Double Cut Number.

Year of the Dog

I’m ready to celebrate the Chinese New Year with my card today. 2018 is the Year of the Dog, so I got out the cute dog from the Mama Elephant Lunar Animals set, ready for some colouring.

I seem to be reaching for my Zig clean colour real brush pens more lately, as I’m enjoying watercolouring. I stamped the Dog with MFT Extreme Black ink, which is fine for watercolour. I can also recommend their black hybrid ink for using with your zig pens too.

I chose just three colours of markers - beige 72, dark brown 62, and light pink 26. I added a little of the beige colour first, blending out with water. I then dried the image with a heat tool and repeated this step 3 or 4 times to get a nice buildup and blend of colour. I then added a thin line of the dark brown around the edge, blending out with water again. Finally, I added some light pink to the cheeks and blended out with water to soften.

Once the image was dry, I added some black gel pen to the eyes, and some white gel pens dots to the cheeks.

For the background, I die cut a rounded rectangle from red cardstock. I used the MFT chevron stencil with versamark ink, then embossed the chevrons with clear embossing powder. I love the texture and shine this gives to the background. I added this to a white card base.

I stamped, in versamark ink, three of the lanterns from the Avery Elle Bunting stamp set. I embossed these with gold embossing powder. I used coordinating dies to die cut the strings and bows from gold metallic card. Unfortunately, the dies are out of stock currently, but the stamp set does come with string and bow stamps. By stamping and embossing these in gold on the background, it would give a similar look. Alternatively, some gold twine would look lovely too.

The year is die cut from gold metallic card, using the C&9th Double Cut Numbers.

I added everything to the card, using either foam tape or liquid glue. To help ground the dog on the card, I added a grey oval shadow beneath him.

18th Birthday with Texture Two

Today I’m sharing a card I made for an 18th birthday. I wanted to create a fun patterned background so chose the Flora and Fauna Texture Two stamp set.

I die cut a stitched rounded rectangle from white card, then stamped different patterns from the set with some MFT inks. To add a pop of metallic to the card, I heat embossed some patterns in gold.

To bring more of the colours from the stamping into the card, I used the Lil’Inker Designs deco edges to trim the white card panel, then added some more deco edges in gold glitter paper and blue card to the top and bottom of the panel. I then added this to a white card base.

For the balloon, I decided to only use the border of one of the C&9th Happy Balloons die set, as I wanted the background to show behind. I die cut it from the same blue card as the border.

I used another great C&9th die set to add an '18' to the balloon, in gold glitter paper. I also added the balloon string and tassel. To finish, I added a few sequins.
